2014 Reboot

It’s that time… Buffalo hunting season 🙂

And we’re hungry… starving actually… so look out for us… lot’s of focus and desire on display!

After taking a much needed Christmas break following the Olympic Trials, we hit the reset button and kicked off 2014 at Edinburgh’s Hogmanay street party! Roads filled with 80,000+ people, fireworks, and plentiful watering holes stacked this night up to one epic success… and a classic January 1st hangover. Following pictures confirm that outcome, haha!

From here we took a short trip to Perth, Scotland for our 4th Perth Masters of Curling event. The folks do a great job at this event, ice was excellent, and it’s a fun place to play a bunch of competitive games. We’ve won this event in our first 2 visits, made the final last year, and after 5 straight wins in 2014 we were looking good to make another finals appearance. However, ran into a hot shooting Swedish skip (Oskar Eriksson) who stopped us in the semi-finals. Shouldn’t have left him that angle double run for 3… Bah! Still, good event for us and got back what we needed… confidence and enjoyment competing!

The entire team has looked very dedicated this January. Can’t argue with their desire and willingness to prepare and be the best we can be next week at provincials. In fact, our provincials are at the MTS Iceplex just outside the perimeter highway of Winnipeg. I believe it was almost 20 years ago the last time Winnipeg hosted the Manitoba Men’s Provincials. Looking forward to playing in a new and exciting environment! Check out safewaychampionship.ca for information/news/live scores and tune-in to SportsnetTV on the weekend for 3 televised playoff games!

So, here’s to all the teams battling it out in their respective provinces the next couple of weeks. Good luck and to those that win, some well-deserved purple hearts and a trip to Kamloops!
